2015年3月16日「モバイル英語学習」第287号(エッセイ): Going to College: Yes, Then No

————————————-
A few weeks ago, one American university told 800 people that they could enter the university. This university has a very good computer science department, and many people want to study there. It is difficult to get in, so these people were very happy when they got the news in an email. Then the university sent them another email a few hours later. The first email was a mistake. They didn’t get into the university! This isn’t the first time a university has done this. The problem is because they now use email. It’s much faster, but it’s easier to make mistakes with email than with letters. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

I was riding my motor scooter the other day, and I stopped at a red light. I saw a man walking along looking at something in his hand. I was expecting to see a cell phone, but when I looked more closely at his hands, I saw that he was reading a book. He was turning the pages as he was walking. It must have been a good book because he didn’t look up. Luckily, he was on a wide sidewalk, and there weren’t many cyclists or pedestrians (people who are walking). Even so, I don’t think it’s a good idea to read while you are walking. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
