*************************
A German scientist discovered X-rays 126 years ago today. His name was Rontgen, and that is why X-rays are called “” in Japanese. In English, we don’t use this word. We only say “X-ray.” Rontgen found out that these rays could go through human flesh but that they didn’t go through bones. He could take pictures of the inside of the body. Doctors started to use X-rays to see broken bones inside people without surgery. The X-ray was called a medical miracle. X-rays are still used by doctors today, but we now know that they can be dangerous if they are used too often. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
