These days there are many terrible diseases in the world: AIDS, SARS, Ebola, and MERS. When I was growing up, there was another dangerous disease called smallpox. Every year, it killed about 2 million people. Now, no one has this disease. How was it stopped? Countries around the world worked hard and gave people vaccinations. They were so successful that on October 26, 1977, only one person was found with smallpox. He was the last person who had this disease, and he survived. I hope the world can do the same with other dangerous diseases. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
